The Refuge

God has given us a clear direction for what He wants for the future of this ministry. The Refuge is God's vision for a community house where men can heal in Christ.

The Need

Our world is in a crisis largely because of wounded masculinity. True masculinity looks like the pure love of Jesus on the cross, but the deep pain of insecurity in men causes a tendency toward passivity or domination. As men recover their true masculinity in the humanity of Christ, it naturally reorders wounded femininity. St. Paul teaches on the natural order in marital relationship, which applies universally to the masculine and feminine:

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish." Eph. 5:25-27

When men become men by dying to self out of love, women naturally submit to Christ in them. Witnessing and receiving the genuine love of wholehearted men has power to heal insecurity in women.

This is why we've been called to focus on a house for men.

The Vision

A community house where men live and pray in common with the intention of total healing in Christ.

We minister to men more than women because that's who God usually sends us. Sometimes we invite them to stay with us for a time of intensive healing. This can be a powerful experience, but it is most effective when the visitor is integrated into a fully established community. Men need other men to strive together toward union with God.

We envision

  • 4-5 full-time residents: individuals can rotate according to God's will

  • Shared rooms for up to 4 guests at a time

Community life for residents and guests incorporates

  • Daily prayer and meals in common

  • Daily access to Mass and Confession (walking distance)

  • Fellowship and formation times

  • Individual healing sessions

  • Community service opportunities

  • Physical activity/work

  • House chores

Our Experience

Andrew and Jenna have been specifically formed and gifted by God to help men heal in the context of community.

How You Can Help

Andrew has an M.A. in Servant Leadership from Gonzaga University, and he graduated from the Encounter School of Ministry. He has lived in intentional community in various capacities for over 10 years. From 2023-2025, he led a Catholic men's house in Philadelphia. He has a gift and call for community leadership, especially for men.

Jenna has a B.A. in Theology from University of Dallas, and she has been a community leader for many years. Her spiritual gift helps identify wounds and other blocks to love, and her sales background makes her an excellent coach.
